CFC appoints John Howard as Chair of its Board of Directors

CFC, a specialist insurance provider focused on emerging risks and recognized as a market leader in cyber insurance, has appointed industry veteran John Howard as chairman, subject to regulatory approval.

Howard brings more than three decades of industry experience, including a strong track record in the U.S. specialty, CFC’s largest distribution market and a priority area for future growth. In his new role, he will support CFC’s growth strategy in the US market.

He previously served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Truist Insurance Holdings, which includes AmRisc, CRC, Crump, McGriff and Starwind.

In addition, Howard currently serves as an independent non-executive director of Everest Group, chairman of Compre Group and chairman of the Insurance Agents and Brokers Council.

His appointment follows CFC’s investment in its onshore leadership team earlier this year and the appointment of Justin Camara as CEO of CFC USA in January.

Richard Ward, who has served as Chairman since 2022, will continue to serve as senior independent non-executive director on the CFC Board.

Howard commented: “CFC is a unique business and one of the most exciting growth stories in the insurance industry, having become a global leader in specialty insurance for SMEs. As the risk landscape becomes increasingly complex, demand for CFC products is growing significantly and its proprietary technology and culture of continuous improvement position it well to seize this opportunity.”

Ward said: “I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together during our time as chairman. This is a strong, resilient and purpose-driven business and I know it will continue to thrive under John’s leadership. When I take over the role of senior independent non-executive director, I look forward to supporting the board and ensuring a smooth and confident transition.”

Howard added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard for the outstanding leadership, support and constructive challenge he has provided to the company during his tenure as chairman. I look forward to working with Richard, Louis and the management team to enable CFC to continue its strong momentum as a fast-growing, capital-light and highly innovative insurance provider.”

Louise O’Shea, CFC Group CEO, said: “Under Richard’s leadership, CFC is future-focused and poised to further accelerate growth in the coming years. We are deeply grateful for his strong commitment and leadership to CFC over the years. John’s deep experience and leadership in the U.S. expertise will be an asset as we enter the next phase of global growth. We are delighted to welcome him to the Board.”
