Canopius adds Melanie Brown as Head of US Claims

Canopius Group, a global specialty property and casualty insurer and reinsurer, has appointed Melanie Brown as head of US claims, effective August 3, 2026.

In her new role, Brown will report to incoming Canopius Group Chief Claims Officer Steve Parry. She will lead the reinsurer’s U.S. claims function, ensuring high-quality results for policyholders and brokers and reinforcing the group’s commitment to rigorous claims management.

Brown has extensive experience in claims management in the specialty insurance, property and casualty insurance and reinsurance businesses.

Most recently, she served as Head of Complex and Specialty Claims for Munich Re North America. In this role, she oversees strategies for managing high-risk claims and drives initiatives to improve claims performance and efficiency.

Prior to that, Brown held senior claims leadership roles at Markel.

Lindsay Astor, Acting CEO of Canopius US, commented on the appointment: “Melanie’s extensive experience in professional, P&C and reinsurance claims, coupled with her proven leadership skills, make her a perfect fit to support our US business.
