BMS Group, an independent global insurance and reinsurance broker, has established a Global Competence Center (GCC) in Mumbai, led by Nipun Mapara as Managing Director (MD) and Sanjeev Poojari appointed as Head of Operations.

The new center marks an important step in the broker’s long-term strategy to build data, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities at scale.

The Mumbai-based GCC further complements BMS’s wider presence in India, following the recent announcement of a strategic partnership with Berns Brett India (BBI). These initiatives are designed to drive geographical advantage, diversification and sustainable business growth.

As an integral part of the group, BMS India GCC will work with teams across global brokerage, data, analytics, technology and customer service functions.

The GCC is central to BMS’s long-term operating model, expanding its access to talent, skills and AI expertise in India while increasing collaboration and alignment.

As the group accelerates investments in data infrastructure and artificial intelligence, BMS India GCC will provide the specialized capabilities required to deploy artificial intelligence tools at scale and in real-time across brokerage and operations.

BMS is supported by EY, which provided advice on the feasibility, design and construction of the centre, as well as the necessary skills required for market delivery.

Nick Cook, BMS Group CEO, said: “The opening of the GCC in Mumbai is more than just an operational milestone. It is a platform to build data and artificial intelligence capabilities that will help BMS serve customers better and compete more effectively. India has extraordinary talent and we are committed to making the BMS India GCC a true center of excellence for the group and not just a support function.”

Mapara added: “We are already operational and contributing across multiple workstreams, from brokerage support and customer service to analytics and technology. The team here understands that the products we build in Mumbai have a direct impact on how BMS performs globally. This sense of purpose is exciting and we are ready.”

Benedict Reid, EY UK commercial and professional insurance leader, said: “Brokers are reimagining their operating models to bring advanced AI analytics and specialist talent closer to the core of their businesses. Establishing a GCC in Mumbai has the potential to unlock direct access to cutting-edge AI skills, as well as the ability to scale and deliver enhanced risk insights and client value. By combining divisional, technology and operational capabilities, EY is supporting BMS transformation and competing in a rapidly evolving market.”
