Blenheim Underwriting adds Munich Re’s Ian Ritchie as Contingency Underwriter

Specialist managing general agent (MGA) and Lloyd’s underwriter Blenheim Underwriting has appointed Ian Ritchie as contingency underwriter, effective June 2026.

In his new role, Ritchie will primarily focus on enriching the existing absentee roster by adding areas such as event cancellations, prize compensation, contract bonuses, excess redemptions, film and licensing programs.

With this appointment, Ritchie joins Blenheim Syndicate 5886’s absence contingency team, led by Justin Burns, working alongside existing contingency underwriter Jane Todd.

The move is in line with Blenheim’s long-term growth strategy and will support the development of MGA’s emergency services for clients and brokers.

With over two decades of experience in the emergency market, Ritchie brings a wealth of knowledge from both the claims and underwriting backgrounds. Most recently, he served at Munich Re’s Lloyd’s Syndicate.

Group Chairman and Chief Executive Peter Scales commented on the appointment: “The addition of Ian’s expertise to our emergency response team will enable us to deliver a wider and stronger service within the emergency response sector.

“It reinforces Blenheim’s ethos of delivering value to clients and brokers by bringing independent market-leading underwriting expertise rather than simply adding capacity.”
