The Australian Reinsurance Pools Corporation (ARPC), the government agency that manages Australia’s terrorism and cyclone reinsurance arrangements, has appointed Cameron Hick as its new chief underwriting officer (CUO).
Hick has assumed the role of incoming CUO and will work closely with current ARPC CUO Michael Pennell (PSM) to ensure an orderly transition.
Pennell will begin taking a leave of absence effective September 14, 2026, and will retire on November 27, 2026.
Schick has nearly three decades of experience in the global reinsurance market and has held leadership roles in underwriting, client management, brokerage and portfolio strategy.
In July 2024, he joined ARPC as head of technical underwriting and has since led technical underwriting for the terrorism and hurricane pools.
In the past, Hick has worked for industry giants such as Munich Re in Australia and Germany, PartnerRe in Switzerland, and held reinsurance brokerage positions at companies such as Willis Re, Gallagher Re and Aon.
Dr Christopher Wallace, CEO of ARPC, commented on the appointment: “Cameron brings deep technical expertise and a deep understanding of ARPC’s remit and the wider insurance landscape. His experience within the organization and across the market positions him well to lead our underwriting function into its next phase.”
“I am proud to serve in this role at an important time for ARPC,” Schick said. “My focus will be on further strengthening our capabilities, working closely with insurance companies and ensuring the terrorism and hurricane pools remain efficient and effective.”
Commenting on Pennell’s departure, Dr. Wallace said: “Mike has made significant and lasting contributions to ARPC, strengthening our underwriting capabilities and our relationships across the market. On behalf of the organization, I am grateful for his long-term contributions and leadership.”
