Yelhis Hernández has been appointed head of Latin America at Africa Specialty Risks (ASR), a reinsurance group focused on developing markets.

In her new role in Mexico City, Hernández will be responsible for expanding ASR’s regional presence and driving its growth strategy, reporting to Chief Distribution Officer Amit Khilosia.

Her responsibilities will focus on cultivating relationships with clients, brokers and strategic partners to strengthen and deepen the Group’s foundation and connections in the region.

Hernández has nearly thirty years of professional experience, including more than 18 years in the re/insurance field.

Prior to joining ASR, she spent more than eight years at Lloyd’s in senior market development and relationship management roles in London, Mexico and Central America.

During this time, she managed an investment portfolio of over $20 billion and managed strategic relationships with Lloyd’s managing agents.

Her career also includes leadership roles at Lloyd’s Willis Towers Watson and Zurich involving operations, business transformation, risk management and strategic development throughout Latin America.

Commenting on the appointment, ASR CEO Mikir Shah said: “Latin America is a natural step in ASR’s growth as we expand our expertise into developing markets around the world.

“The region has large and increasingly complex insurance needs, creating a clear opportunity for ASR to work with local partners and help close critical protection gaps. I am delighted to welcome Yelhis, who brings in-depth knowledge of the local market and extensive experience in the international reinsurance sector.”

Yelhis added: “Latin America presents attractive opportunities for ASR, as businesses in the region are grappling with increasingly complex risks but often lack specialized capabilities and solutions.
