Over the weekend, the former EastEnders actor was asked for his thoughts on the PM while making an appearance at a protest calling for public ownership of the water industry, in light of the recent increases in sewage pollution.
“I don’t know who the prime minister is, mate. Do you?” he told a reporter for the BBC, in footage that has since done the rounds on social media.
Dyer continued: “Who is he? I don’t understand. Did anyone vote for him? Because I didn’t vote for him.
“I think we’ve had successive prime ministers that are cunts. End of.”
“Put that on the fucking BBC,” he added, before walking out of frame.
Asked about this as he travelled to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Burnham joked: “I’m not sure I know who he is. Is he the father-in-law of a West Ham player?”
Dyer is, indeed, the “father-in-law of a West Ham player”, as his daughter, the similarly-named Dani Dyer, tied the knot with footballer Jarrod Bowen last year.
Although he’s primarily known for his work on screen in the likes of EastEnders, Rivals and the Bafta-winning Mr Bigstuff, Dyer has also been known to share his unfiltered views on politics.
In 2018, he went viral thanks to an appearance on a late-night edition of Good Morning Britain, where he described David Cameron as a “twat”.
More recently, he tore into Keir Starmer, saying of the former Labour leader: “I don’t like this man. I don’t trust this man. He got the job handed to him on a plate. So what are you going to do to show us you’re different? And he’s gone straight in on pensioners? I find that fucking fascinating.”
He added at the time: “Why Angela Rayner’s not leading things I don’t know. When she speaks, I listen.”
