The track record of private insurance-linked securities (ILS) fund strategies continues to attract more attention, and while private ILS and hybrid strategies are more challenging to raise, conditions for this part of the market continue to improve compared to pure cat bonds, industry experts at the Artemis ILS NYC 2026 conference said.
The tenth meeting of Artemis’ ILS NYC series took place in New York on Friday, February 6, 2026, with over 450 attendees, including a majority of the ILS market.
The first panel of the day, “Private ILS: Achieving Portfolio Discipline and Resilience Across the Cycle,” is now available for free viewing.
The opening panel consists of Lorenzo VolpiDeputy CEO and Managing Partner, Leadenhall Capital Partners LLP, Jessica LairdCEO of Nephila Capital; Michael StahelPartner/Portfolio Manager, LGT ILS Partners Ltd.; Evelyn Tarken-SummersPGGM Head of Insurance Related Investments; and Dr. Raphael Delamoremanaging director of investments and global head of ILS research at Cambridge Associates.
Panelists discussed the impressive track record of private ILS placements and highlighted that despite market weakness, the quality environment remains healthy. Ultimately, speakers expected the strong performance of the private ILS sector to continue as long as portfolio discipline is maintained.
It was also noted that financing private ILS and hybrid strategies remains a greater challenge than pure cat bonds, but panelists stressed that the situation is improving, noting that the track record of private ILS fund strategies is now attracting more attention.
The meeting also discussed the importance of transparency and trust in building investor confidence, as well as the need for ongoing client education to win private ILS allocations.
