It’s a good time to be a Bridgerton fan.
Not only do the Netflix period drama’s loyal followers have a new season to look forward to in 2027, there’s now a new spin-off in the works too.
Following in the footsteps of past miniseries Queen Charlotte, the new show will be subtitled “A Bridgerton Story”, but this time around, the story will centre around the central family’s matriarch Lady Violet.
Netflix’s Tudum outlet teased on Thursday afternoon: “An exciting new spin-off has been announced: a limited series following the romance of young Violet and her eventual husband Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, the parents of Bridgerton’s eight beloved siblings.”
The series will be overseen by Shonda Rhimes, co-writing, showrunning and executive producing alongside Nicholas Nardini.
Ruth Gemmell has played Lady Violet in all four seasons of Bridgerton, with casting information about the new miniseries yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, production on the fifth season of Bridgerton is currently underway in London.
The next run of episodes will be the first to focus on a same-sex love story, centring around Francesca Bridgerton and her relationship with Michaela Stirling, played by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza, respectively.
While in recent history, Bridgerton fans have had to wait around two years between seasons, Netflix’s chief content officer announced earlier this year that the next episodes are expected to premiere in 2027, shortening this gap considerably.
Showrunner Jess Brownell previously teased: “What is most exciting about season five is that it is going to be a season about queer joy. It is not going to be a season about queer trauma.
“There are going to be difficulties for the characters and conflict in the same way there is for every Bridgerton character. But we are still always grounding our love stories in the fact that this series is about joy. It’s about humour.”
