Global reinsurer and primary insurance and risk solutions provider Munich Re has appointed Sabine Starbatty as chief underwriting officer (CUO) for agriculture in the Americas and Europe, effective May 1, 2026.
The reinsurer confirmed that in North America, Starbatty will take on responsibilities currently held by Lambert Muhr, who is retiring at the end of September after several years of successfully developing the company’s agricultural portfolio.
Starbatty brings 25 years of industry experience with deep underwriting expertise, a strong client focus and a people-centered leadership approach.
She joined Munich Re in 2001 as a UK Global Property Treaty trainee and has since made significant contributions across a range of markets and business areas.
Most recently, Starbatty served as head of non-life operations for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and cyber operations for Australia/New Zealand, Greater China and Africa.
In the past she has served as P&C Treaty and Network COO for MENA, GC, ANZ, SA and Head of UK and Nordic Property Insurance Related Solutions.
Starbatty began his career as underwriter and senior underwriter for Property Treaties and later served as senior underwriter and senior corporate underwriter.
“We look forward to her continuing to have a valuable impact on our business and our customers,” Munich Re said in a statement.
