MSIG UK, the UK arm of global insurance group MSIG, has announced two senior appointments as it continues to develop its leadership team and support its long-term business strategy.
Tim Harris has been named interim Chief Underwriting Officer, subject to regulatory approval, while Stephanie Belcourt is joining the business as Claims Director.
Harris previously held the position of deputy chief underwriting officer and has been carrying out the interim role since 7 September, following John Moffatt’s departure. MSIG UK said the appointment demonstrates the strength of its existing underwriting team and its focus on nurturing talent within the organisation.
According to MSIG UK, Harris has been closely involved in the development and execution of its underwriting strategy. His experience across the insurance market, technical knowledge and familiarity with the company’s operations are expected to support the continued delivery of its existing plans. He will work alongside the underwriting leadership team to ensure consistency in performance, strategic direction and service for brokers, clients and managing general agent (MGA) partners.
The company has also appointed Belcourt to lead its claims function. MSIG UK said her appointment will add further experience to its senior team and support its ongoing focus on claims services for brokers and clients. Belcourt joins from Rokstone, where she led the complex claims function, having previously spent several years at Apollo and Hiscox.
Both Harris and Belcourt will take seats on the MSIG UK Executive Committee, bringing their respective underwriting and claims experience to the company’s senior decision-making team.
MSIG UK said the appointments form part of its wider efforts to expand its presence in the open market and strengthen its distribution network. The company is continuing to build on its Dual Stamp initiative with MS Amlin while investing in specialist expertise across several areas of the business.
According to MSIG UK, recruitment across Marine, Construction, Casualty, Property and Claims is intended to strengthen its technical capabilities and support its longer-term growth objectives. The company is also developing new MGA relationships and portfolio solutions to extend its reach and reinforce its position in the specialist insurance market.
Martyn Rodden, chief executive officer of MSIG UK, commented: “Tim is a highly respected leader who has played an important role in developing our underwriting proposition and culture. His appointment reflects both his contribution to the business and the depth of talent within our underwriting team. Our underwriting strategy, appetite and ambitions remain unchanged following Tim’s appointment.
“The forthcoming arrival of Stephanie Belcourt as Claims Director further strengthens our leadership team and reflects our commitment to investing in the future of the business.
“With Tim and Stephanie’s leadership, the experience of our wider team and the support of our Board and shareholder, we remain focused on delivering disciplined growth, underwriting excellence and consistently high standards of service for our brokers, clients and partners.”
