Moonrock Insurance, a specialist insurer insuring emerging aviation risks including unmanned aviation, has appointed Rory Galloway as its first chief data and actuarial officer.

The newly created executive positions reflect the company’s continued commitment to enhancing its use of data, analytics and actuarial expertise as it continues to develop its underwriting capabilities.

Moonrock Insurance said the appointment was part of its wider strategy to bring together specialist underwriting expertise, actuarial analysis and advanced data capabilities to support future growth.

The company said that as the insurance market continues to evolve, it is increasingly important to improve the link between underwriting, pricing, claims and portfolio performance through data-driven insights.

Galloway joins Moonrock Insurance from Markel International where he served as head of reserves and contracting actuaries. Galloway will oversee the company’s actuarial, pricing, portfolio analytics and data strategy activities. His experience will help enhance risk assessment, support more informed underwriting decisions, and provide deeper insights into emerging trends in the unmanned aviation and advanced air transportation markets.

Simon Ritterband, Managing Director at Moonrock Insurance, commented: “This appointment is more than just adding another senior leader. It reflects our view on the future direction of the insurance industry. Moonrock has always challenged conventional thinking in the insurance industry. The creation of this role demonstrates our commitment to investing in the people, technology and analytical capabilities needed to build the business fit for the future.”
