Africa Specialty Risks (ASR), the developing markets-focused reinsurance group, has announced the appointment of Mary Driscoll as regional head of Southern Africa.
Based in Johannesburg, Driscoll will play a key role in strengthening and integrating ASR’s direct Lloyd’s syndicate business in South Africa, working closely with broker and head of Cedent Engagement Corinne Beadsmoore.
She will also support the company’s underwriters in sourcing opportunities across all business areas and provide Lloyd’s AA-rated security to local brokers (Lloyd’s OMC) in South Africa and the wider region.
Additionally, Driscoll will work with Chief Underwriting Officer Eric Malterre and Chief Distribution Officer Amit Khilosia as ASR accelerates its regional growth in Southern Africa.
The executive began her underwriting career with Munich Re South Africa before moving into brokerage with several major local insurance and reinsurance brokers.
She subsequently worked for 10 years as executive underwriter for the Africa portfolio at Emerald Risk Transfer, most recently as Director of Reinsurance Operations at Sanlam Allianz Re in Mauritius.
