Mapfre Re appoints Fernando Utrilla Agüero as CFO

The board of directors of Mapfre Re, the global reinsurance arm of Mapfre Group, has approved the appointment of Fernando Utrilla Agüero as chief financial officer (CFO), succeeding Daniel Quermia.

Agüero’s appointment is part of the succession process as Quermia retires after nearly 40 years with Mapfre Re.

Agüero joined Mapfre Re in May 1994 and has since held a number of key positions. Most recently, he served as deputy chief financial officer, effective July 2025. Prior to this, he served as Assistant General Manager of Mapfre Re’s MAPFRE Group Business.

Mapfre Re noted that the appointment strengthens its financial structure and ensures the continuity of its roadmap, leveraging Agüero’s knowledge of the business and his long career within the group.

Miguel Rosa, CEO of Mapfre Re, said: “Daniel has made a decisive contribution to the development and integration of the company, always standing out for his professional rigor, dedication and strong service orientation. Fernando has assumed this responsibility at a critical time and brings a wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of the business; we have every confidence that he will continue to contribute to the growth and strength of Mapfre Re.”
