Mackay succeeds Adamczyk as HDI’s Global Head of Energy & Power

Commercial and specialty lines insurer HDI Global has announced the appointment of Mark Mackay as global head of energy and power, effective March 1.

McKay will succeed Franz Adamczyk, who is stepping down after decades of working with clients and brokers around the world to develop and expand the energy and power portfolio.

With this transition, HDI Global “reinforces its commitment as a long-term partner to customers, helping them drive generation, traditional energy transition, and accelerate the transition to low carbon and emerging technologies – serving the entire value chain beyond the energy and power sector.”

Dr. Dirk Höring, Member of the Executive Board of HDI Global SE responsible for Property Insurance, Engineering Insurance, Marine Insurance and HDI Risk Advisory, said: “Mark Mackay combines deep technical expertise with a strong international perspective and a proven track record of building sustainable, customer-focused growth in energy and power projects.

“With Mark taking on this global role, we will further strengthen our position as a trusted partner in the transformation journey for clients and brokers around the world by supporting complex projects in the traditional energy and power sectors as well as the technologies that drive transformation.”

McKay moves into his new role from his previous role leading the company’s energy and power business unit in Singapore, where he has been instrumental in strengthening the business in the eastern region.

In the new global role, the executive will focus on enhancing HDI’s customer value proposition by integrating specialty underwriting and claims expertise across the cross-functional energy and power divisions.

Mackay, who has a background as a chemical engineer, has more than 15 years of international insurance experience and has a long history of developing portfolios through superior underwriting technology, client-focused strategies and strong broker relationships.

He initially joined HDI in 2019, having previously held senior positions at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty and AXA XL.

Adamczyk, outgoing global head of energy and power, will transition to a senior advisory role within the energy and power sector while retaining his global risk property responsibilities.

He joined HDI in 1981 and worked with customers and partners to develop the product portfolio, including establishing a significant US presence in Chicago. Importantly, he will remain with HDI Global.

Höring added: “At the same time, I would like to express my deep gratitude to Franz Adamczyk. For decades, Franz has shaped not only our product portfolio, but also the way we work: with outstanding dedication, market insight and unwavering commitment to our customers and teams. HDI Global’s Energy & Power business has become stronger because of his leadership, and we sincerely thank him for everything he has built and continues to contribute.”

Following Mackay’s move to a global role, Haris Michaels will take over leadership of HDI’s Singapore Eastern region portfolio energy and power business from March 1.

With more than two decades of experience, Michaels will continue to drive growth in Asia, with a particular focus on supporting clients through the transformation of the energy landscape.

Adamczyk said: “Our dedicated Energy & Power division today serves customers across the entire value chain: from the resiliency of traditional energy sources to new technologies in transformation. I am proud of the results we have built together with our customers and partners, and I am confident that Mark will lead our business into its next chapter. I am pleased to hand over the leadership role to him. I also look forward to continuing to support our Energy & Power business in my current role.”

Together with our teams across the globe, we will continue to leverage the best of HDI Global to support clients across the Energy & Power sector: technical excellence, global reach and customized solutions.”
