The Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA), which represents managing agents in the Lloyd’s market, and the International Underwriting Association (IUA), representing insurers operating in London’s company market, have established a new group focused on healthcare claims.
The Joint Healthcare Claims Group brings together claims professionals from across the Lloyd’s and company markets, with the aim of providing a shared platform for discussing developments affecting healthcare-related insurance claims.
The LMA and IUA said the group will enable practitioners to exchange knowledge, consider emerging issues and build closer links between claims teams across the London market. The associations said the initiative is intended to support the development and sharing of specialist expertise within the sector.
The new group comes as healthcare insurance continues to be affected by changes in legislation and regulation, alongside developments in claims patterns and litigation. The LMA and IUA said these factors have contributed to a more complex operating environment for healthcare professionals and insurers.
Xanthe Boyle, Chief Claims Officer at Coverys London, and Georgia Billington, Casualty Claims Manager at Dale Underwriting Partners, will jointly chair the group.
Janine Powell, Claims Director at the LMA, commented: “Healthcare remains a specialised and continually evolving class of business. By creating a single forum for healthcare claims specialists from across the Lloyd’s and company markets, we can help ensure the London market continues to provide innovative and effective solutions for clients.”
Joe Shaw, Director of Claims at the IUA, added: “This new group provides an opportunity to bring together expertise from both associations, encourage greater collaboration between claims practitioners and support discussion on the issues most important to the sector.”
The LMA and IUA said the group is part of their wider work to develop technical knowledge, facilitate engagement between market participants and support best practice across the London insurance market.
