John Boyega has disclosed that he got married in private around two years ago.
The Star Wars actor recently sat down for an emotional interview with The Guardian about the murder of his school friend, Damilola Taylor, at the age of 10 in November 2000.
During the conversation, the Bafta winner also opened about where his life is now, casually mentioning that he’s “been married for coming up to two years now”.
What’s more he also confirmed that his wife is expecting their first child.
“My baby’s on the way. We got a baby cooking,” he enthused, revealing he has a baby boy on the way and is also a stepfather to his wife’s son.
“So, you know, my life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family. It’s been so nice with the timing,” he added.
Although he was scarce on details about his marriage, The Guardian claimed that he “got married the way Braveheart did”.
“Will you come with me?” he joked while apparently “miming the action of planting a sword in the ground”.
He added that he and his wife intend to have a traditional Nigerian “wedding celebration” in the future, noting: “I would love to have a wedding celebration. We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry. And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”
The British actor rose to international fame in the 2010s when he was cast as Finn in the rebooted Star Wars trilogy.
In the years since, he’s appeared in movies as varied as the dystopian tech thriller The Circle, the historical crime drama Detroit, the action epic Pacific Rim Uprising and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s critically-lauded The Woman King.
He also took the lead as Leroy Logan in the Red, White And Blue episode of Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe.
