Global insurance broker Howden has appointed Enrico Nanni as CEO, Europe, effective 1st January 2027, reportedly marking the next phase in the evolution of the firm’s Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) business.
“Building on the success of the past five years, the new structure is the next step in scaling the business across EMEA, while ensuring leadership remains close to local markets, clients and colleagues,” Howden explained.
Nanni, currently Chief Commercial Officer, will continue in that role alongside his new responsibilities and will report to Luigi Sturani, CEO, EMEA.
Sturani, meanwhile, will continue to lead the region in his role as CEO, EMEA, maintaining oversight of Europe while focusing on advancing growth opportunities across the Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Central Asia.
Howden noted that in his new role, Nanni will work closely with Howden’s European CEOs to sustain strong organic growth and strengthen collaboration across the region.
Nanni began his insurance career in London almost 30 years ago, specialising in international Financial Institutions and Professional Risks at Willis Towers Watson.
In 2006, he joined Aon, where he held a number of leadership roles within the Global Broking Centre. In 2016, he was appointed Chief Commercial Officer for Aon EMEA Specialty.
Nanni joined Howden in 2021 as Chief Commercial Officer, Europe, and has, according to the firm, played a central role in the expansion of the business across the region.
Sturani commented, “I have worked alongside Enrico since 1997 and know first-hand his ability to build businesses, develop talent and create lasting relationships with clients and partners. Throughout our time working together, he has brought the same energy, ambition and commercial focus to every role.
“Over the past five years at Howden, we have transformed our European business, growing from 11 countries to 30, increasing our team from 1,000 to more than 6,000 people with $8.5 billion in GWP.
“These achievements reflect the strength of our people and culture, but they also owe a great deal to Enrico’s leadership, energy and relentless focus on growth.
“Enrico’s deep understanding of our countries and the relationships he has built make him the right person to take on this role. I can think of no one better to lead Europe through the next chapter of our journey.”
Nanni added, “I am honoured to take on this role at such an exciting time for our business. What we have achieved over the past five years is a testament to the talent, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment of our colleagues across the region.
“Together, we have built a fantastic platform for future growth. The foundations are incredibly strong, but there is still so much opportunity ahead. I look forward to working with our country CEOs and teams to continue strengthening offering to clients and markets.”
