HDI Global, the Corporate & Specialty insurer within the HDI Group, has appointed Tobias Sigurdsson as Global Head of Fine Art & Specie, with the company aiming to further develop its international offering for high-value assets and complex risks.
The appointment forms part of its wider strategy to strengthen its specialty insurance capabilities by combining its international expertise with underwriting resources in local markets. Sigurdsson will be responsible for supporting the continued expansion of the Fine Art & Specie business, including HDI Global’s activities in the London market.
The role will also involve developing underwriting capabilities in selected regions, enabling its teams to respond to the needs of brokers and clients with greater local expertise as well as international capacity.
Sigurdsson brings more than 20 years of experience in Marine and Specialty insurance to the position. He joined HDI Global in 2017 and has since worked on the development of the company’s Cargo and Specie operations. His previous responsibilities included overseeing Cargo underwriting in the Nordic markets and Specie underwriting on a global basis. HDI Global said his work contributed to the growth of its Specie portfolio and its position in the segment.
The Fine Art & Specie business provides insurance for a variety of valuable and specialised assets. HDI Global’s portfolio includes risks associated with museums, galleries and private collections, alongside cash, precious metals, jewellery and other high-value property.

Sigurdsson entered the marine insurance sector in 2002 after studying law at Uppsala University and specialising in maritime law at the University of Oslo. Alongside his corporate responsibilities, HDI Global said he has held industry roles including membership of international cargo insurance committees.
