Gallagher, an international insurance brokerage and risk management company, has appointed Darren Rowland as executive director of hull and war risks within its global marine practice.
Based in London, Rowland will use his more than four decades of experience in marine broking to support clients worldwide, with a focus on providing tailored insurance cover and risk management services for the maritime sector.
The appointment follows Rowland’s seven-year tenure at ATL, a specialist Lloyd’s broker operating in the marine and energy markets, where he worked as lead marine broker. Before joining ATL, he spent more than 20 years at Willis in a range of senior marine broking positions, including roles in London and Hong Kong.
At Gallagher, Rowland will report to Andrew James, the company’s managing director of marine, and contribute to the firm’s work with clients across its international marine portfolio.
James commented: “As one of the largest marine hull and machinery teams in the market, we offer a wide range of specialist marine risk management solutions across all major maritime operations, globally. Darren brings a wealth of experience in hull & war insurance, a vital type of protection for the marine industry currently given the current geopolitical uncertainty and he will be a fantastic asset to Gallagher and our client base.”
Rowland added: “Gallagher has an established reputation as a highly experienced specialist marine broker, and I am looking forward to helping to support its existing global marine client base and further expand our services to new customers. With a deep understanding of the maritime sector, I have successfully led teams in delivering exceptional results and I have strong relationships with key stakeholders throughout the sector, including ship owners, charterers and global insurance markets, which puts us in a great position.”
