Daisy May Cooper has spoken for the first time about long-held rumours that she was supposed to appear on the inaugural season of The Celebrity Traitors.

Last year, before the Bafta-winning reality show aired the first run of its celebrity spin-off, it had been widely reported that Daisy and her brother, Charlie, who is also her co-star in This Country, would be among the famous faces heading into the castle.

However, weeks before filming was due to begin, The Sun reported that the pair had “pulled out” of Celebrity Traitors, which the tabloid said had “flung” the show “into chaos” as producers scrambled to find a replacement.

More than a year later, the comedian has finally had her say on the matter, admitting that as filming drew nearer, she began to see it as a “fucking nightmare”.

“We panicked,” she told The Independent. “We were going to do it and then they said, ‘Basically, you’re going to stay in a shit hotel,’ and I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can do it’.”

Daisy was subsequently told that, per the show’s rules, she would only be allowed to speak to her children in certain circumstances for the duration of filming, and also wouldn’t be allowed to share a hotel room with Charlie.

“It just sounded like a fucking nightmare,” she claimed. “I thought, ‘Fuck it. It’s not enough money’.”

Fellow actor Anna Maxwell Martin previously said that she had to give the idea the thumbs down when she realised it would keep her up past her usual 8pm bedtime, while Lorraine Kelly and Martin Lewis have both said they couldn’t commit to its demanding schedule.
