CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Holding Company, a provider of workers’ compensation and commercial insurance, has appointed Kellen Booher as its new president and chief executive officer, marking the next phase in the company’s leadership evolution.
He succeeds Marc Schmittlein, who previously announced his intention to retire and will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board.
The transition reflects a structured succession process, with Booher and Schmittlein working closely together over the past year to maintain continuity and strengthen the company’s long-term direction. Booher joined CopperPoint in 2025 as president and chief operating officer, responsible for leading operational performance across the organization and supporting key strategic initiatives.
Prior to joining CopperPoint, Booher held senior leadership roles at Chubb, most recently as executive vice president and head of consumer and small business for key international markets. During his tenure, he also led significant digital initiatives for North American and global operations. Earlier in his career, he gained experience in product development, distribution and analytical leadership at The Travelers Companies.
Schmittlein becomes executive chairman in 2024 and will remain actively involved as chairman of the board of directors. Since joining CopperPoint in 2016, he has led the company’s transformation from a single-state workers’ compensation provider to a diversified regional property and casualty insurer, including overseeing acquisitions such as Pacific Compensation and Alaska National.
“I join the entire leadership team in being energized and excited about CopperPoint’s future. The strengths of our people – our deep underwriting and claims expertise, uncompromising values and unwavering commitment to customers, partners and communities – continue to drive CopperPoint forward,” Boher added.
“Under Mark’s leadership, investments over the past decade have laid a solid foundation and set us on a path of continued growth and transformation. Our team is leveraging our significant technology, data and analytics assets to accelerate our pace of innovation, and we are delivering more products and services to policyholders and partners than ever before, all delivered with our exceptional standards of service. I am honored to lead this organization, advance our strategic vision and deliver greater value to those we serve in the years to come.”
“Kellen brings a collaborative and forward-thinking leadership style that is highly aligned with CopperPoint’s values and vision,” said Schmittlein.
“His ability to connect with people and shape an inspiring path forward will continue to build momentum in driving CopperPoint into its next chapter. On behalf of the CopperPoint Board of Directors, I can say that we are confident in Kellen’s leadership and vision, commitment to the mutual aid model, and long-term focus on serving policyholders, agent and broker partners, employees, and the communities we support.”
