Clear Group, an independent insurance and employee benefits group with operations across the UK and Ireland, continues to expand its leadership team with the appointment of two senior executives to support its long-term growth plans.
The company has appointed Phil Williams as group chief commercial officer (CCO) and Matthew Alcott as UK retail chief executive. The two executives will take up their new positions in September 2026.
Clear Group said the appointments were part of its wider strategy to continue to grow into a diversified insurance group operating in the UK retail, broking, Irish, MGA and London markets. The company said the new leadership structure is designed to strengthen its commercial approach, enhance its customer service and support further investment in technology, data and artificial intelligence to help drive future growth.
As group chief commercial officer, Williams will oversee Clear Group’s commercial strategy across the organization. According to the company, he will work closely with the executive leadership team to identify new growth opportunities, improve commercial performance and strengthen customer propositions through the increased use of technology, analytics and data.
Williams has extensive experience in market development, insurance brokerage, pricing, regulation and distribution. Clear Group said he will continue to lead its UK retail strategy until September as group chief commercial officer.
Alcott joins Clear Group from Aon, where he served as UK chief commercial officer. He started his career as a risk engineer and progressed to senior leadership positions. His previous experience also includes being UK sales director for Oval, as well as roles at AXA, Allianz and Marsh.
Alcott’s background includes leadership, sales and brokerage experience in the enterprise, mid-market and small and medium-sized business sectors, Clear Group said. In his new role as UK Retail CEO, he will lead the next phase of the company’s retail business, with a focus on strengthening customer relationships, maintaining high service standards and supporting continued growth.
Alcott commented: “I’m delighted to be joining Clear at such an exciting and important time. The company has a strong reputation for putting customers first and creating an environment where colleagues can develop and do their best work. I’m very much looking forward to working with the team and helping to grow the UK retail business.”
Mike Edgeley, group chief executive of Clear Group, added: “As Clear continues to grow, it is important that our leadership structure evolves with it. Phil’s new role reflects the increasing scale and diversity of our business, and the opportunity to strengthen the commercial focus across the group. We are also delighted to welcome Matthew to Clear. His extensive market experience and leadership credentials make him an excellent choice to lead our UK retail business into the next stage of growth.”
“In addition to these appointments, we will continue to invest in data, technology and artificial intelligence capabilities, which will help our colleagues deliver a better experience for customers while supporting the group’s long-term objectives.”
Clear Group said the appointments reflect the company’s continued investment in senior leadership as it continues to expand its capabilities across the business. The insurer added that its continued focus on technology, innovation and commercial developments aims to support sustainable long-term growth while enhancing the experience it provides its customers.
