Blue Owl Capital appoints Deva Mishra to lead expansion of insurance solutions platform

US-based alternative asset manager Blue Owl Capital Inc. has confirmed the appointment of Deva Mishra to lead its insurance solutions platform as it expands its capabilities for insurance clients.

Blue Owl, which invests across credit, real assets and general partner strategic capital strategies, said the appointment was part of its ongoing efforts to expand its insurance-focused product offering.

Mishra will assume the role of head of insurance solutions at Blue Owl on July 6, reporting to co-CEOs Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz.

Blue Owl launched its Insurance Solutions program in 2024 to develop tailored investment strategies for insurance clients, supported by the company’s broader investment platform.

The company explained that the platform leverages the expertise of its credit, real assets and GP strategic capital teams, and Mishra is expected to help further integrate and expand these capabilities to meet the needs of insurance companies for diversified, long-term investment solutions.

“Deva is a proven builder and leader with a unique track record in insurance, asset-backed financing and long-term investment solutions,” Ostrover and Lipschultz commented. “His approach is consistent with our continued focus on being a trusted partner to insurance companies, delivering diversified investment strategies at scale.”

Mishra prior to joining Blue Owl served as CEO of Prosperity Asset Management and Chief Investment Officer and Director of Prosperity Group Holdings.

During his tenure, he worked with Elliott Management to grow the business from approximately $3 billion to approximately $30 billion in assets and monetize billions of dollars. He oversees insurance M&A, asset management, reinsurance, capital markets transactions and origination platform activities.

Prior to that, Mishra served as deputy chief investment officer at Global Atlantic Financial Group, where he managed more than $50 billion in general accounts and contributed to the firm’s expansion from $5 billion to $50 billion in assets.

He also led investment strategy for insurance M&A and reinsurance activities, delivering strong results over the past eight years, and has extensive experience in balance sheet management, alternative assets, real assets and structured finance investments, Blue Owl noted.

“Blue Owl has a long history of delivering strong returns to investors and the opportunity now is to further scale the insurance solutions platform,” Mishra added. “This foundation will enable us to leverage Blue Owl’s origin depth and expertise to prudently manage capital across alternatives to create long-term value for insurance companies.”
