Amanda Seyfried has said her days of enjoying the filming of sex scenes are over.

The former Mean Girls star – who celebrated her 40th birthday last year – opened up about no longer wanting to deal with intimate on-screen moments during a panel hosted by actor Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival last week.

“Our jobs are weird,” Amanda said, as reported by People magazine. “And as I get older, it gets weirder. We have to be romantic with people that we’re not romantic with.”

Amanda said that her comfort with acting out passionate scenes has waned as her career has evolved.

“Sometimes it’s great. Sometimes it’s really uncomfortable. But I can’t believe back in the day I was just like, ‘We gotta make out. Great! This is awesome. I know how to make out’,” she said, laughing.

Filming sex scenes used to be fun and “a non-thing”, she explained. “It was like, ‘I get to make out with a hot person today … And they’re paying me.’”

However, over time, the Oscar nominee’s stance shifted, to the point that she even turned down a TV role.

“I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex,” she said of the unnamed series.

“Doesn’t matter [who it’s with]. I don’t wanna do it. I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now.”

“Maybe if [the project] came along again [at a later point], maybe I’d be in a different space. But I don’t wanna deal with being naked with a stranger,” she said.

Several other celebrities, including Julia Roberts and Penn Badgley, have also publicly expressed their decision to avoid filming sex or nude scenes.

Penn shared on his Podcrushed podcast in 2023 that he preferred not to film sex scenes for the Netflix show You because “fidelity in my — in every relationship, and especially my marriage — is important to me. And yeah, it just got to a point where I don’t want to do that.”
