UIB, a provider of specialist insurance and risk solutions to the energy and construction industries, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ray Spreadbury as Head of Renewables and Director of Downstream for its Energy and Construction division.
Spreadbury joined UIB in 2025, bringing more than 30 years of experience in global energy industry brokerage and risk management.
He has deep expertise in renewable energy, upstream and downstream energy insurance, advising clients ranging from emerging developers to large multinational organisations.
Most recently, he worked at MMI International, providing risk management guidance for U.S. LNG facility projects. His work also includes advising the Falkland Islands Government on the legal framework for oil and gas operations and contract negotiations for a 1GW battery energy storage system (BESS) asset developer in Europe.
Previously, he led Price Forbes’ renewable energy division, supporting clients in the UK, Southeast Asia, South Africa and South America. At Aon, he held senior leadership roles, including interim head of offshore renewables, overseeing large-scale offshore wind projects such as a 3GW wind farm and contributing to the development of advanced technologies such as floating wind and over 15MW turbines.
Spreadbury began his career in 1993 in Sedgwick Insurance Brokers’ graduate program, laying the technical and commercial foundation for his consulting approach today. He joined Marsh in 1999, rising to the position of Head of Renewables, and further developed his international experience as Head of Energy Australia from 2014.
Robert Brundrett, managing director of UIB’s Energy and Buildings division, added: “Ray has extensive experience in renewables, downstream energy and complex international projects, making him a huge asset to our business. His leadership and technical capabilities will be instrumental as we continue to support our customers through the energy transition and expand our renewable energy offerings globally.”
