TransRe bolsters senior management team

Transatlantic Holdings (TransRe), the reinsurance arm of Alleghany Corporation, has promoted Mike Torre to head the global real estate portfolio, Maryam Haji to lead the global catastrophe management team and catastrophe modeling professionals, Desmond Pollock to lead the go-to-market team, and Eyal Shnaps now heads the U.S. customization team.

These promotions are designed to increase reinsurers’ focus on building strong, lasting partnerships with clients and brokers.

Torre joined the reinsurer in 2018 and has taken on new responsibilities, in addition to his existing responsibilities, to develop and execute TransRe’s third-party capital strategy. As head of global real estate portfolio and third-party capital, he will report to Lisa Moser, president of global portfolio management.

Haji joined TransRe in 2014 and has since led the validation of third-party Cat models, the development of TransRe’s property risk assessment framework and the integration of network modeling into risk management workflows. Haji will also continue to report to Moser as global head of research and disaster management.

Shnaps joined TransRe’s Capital Partners Group in 2014. Most recently, he served as TransRe’s global real estate portfolio leader, where he was responsible for developing real estate strategy and analytics and managing total volume. In his new role, he will report to John Fugit, chief underwriting officer, North America.

In his new role, Pollock will report to Paul McKeon, president of global underwriting, and focus on client/broker relationships, analytics and market communications. Pollock joined TransRe in 2006 to lead the regional division of the U.S. Customs team and soon assumed leadership of the U.S. Customs team in 2017.

McKeon commented: “In today’s market, it is more important than ever that our frontline teams have the best support possible to help deliver the service and capabilities that our partner clients and brokers expect and deserve. These changes help us achieve that goal and showcase the strength and depth of talent within TransRe.”

Moser added: “These changes better integrate our analytical capabilities to enhance the insights our portfolio teams deliver to underwriting teams across all geographies and lines of business globally. I have worked with Mike and Maryam for many years and am confident they will bring a new perspective to the expanded role.”
