HDI Global UK and Ireland announces the appointment of Tom Potter as Chief Underwriting Officer, Long Tail, with effect from 1 February 2026.
In his new role, Potter will be responsible for overseeing HDI’s long-tail underwriting strategy across the liability, life sciences, fleet and cyber sectors in the UK and Ireland, further strengthening the company’s technology capabilities and strengthening alignment with its wider underwriting leadership structure.
Porter will report directly to HDI Global UK and Ireland interim chief executive Simon Hunt, who commented: Tom’s promotion is testament to the impact he is already making within our underwriting organization.
“His technical expertise, market insights and collaborative leadership will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our long-tail portfolio and strengthen our client and broker relationships as a transformation partner.”
Porter will step into his new role from his current role as liability director, where he was instrumental in shaping the company’s liability underwriting strategy.
He has a rich 15-year career with extensive experience in casualty, environmental, construction and property underwriting.
Prior to joining HDI in September 2025, Potter held a senior underwriting leadership position at AXA XL. Most recently, he served as global casualty underwriting manager in the global chief underwriting office of Lloyd’s of London.
