Selma Blair’s team has issued a statement following reports that she was arrested after a serious incident on board a flight.
On Monday evening, it was reported that the Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde actor had been taken into custody a day earlier, with TMZ and The Hollywood Reporter claiming that she had punched one flight attendant and bitten another while travelling from Los Angeles to New York.
The outlets also alleged that Selma had attempted to open the plane’s emergency exit mid-flight.
She was later taken into custody by the Port Authority Police Department and transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
As is standard procedure for incidents involving assault aboard an aircraft, the matter has now been taken over by the FBI.
Her team said in a statement: “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”
The airline Delta also told The Hollywood Reporter: “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.”
It has been noted that this isn’t the first time Selma – who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 – has been at the centre of an incident on board a flight.
A decade ago, in 2016, she was flying from Cancun, Mexico to Los Angeles, USA, when she began screaming on board the flight, and had to be subdued by members of the cabin crew.
She said in a subsequent statement: “I made a big mistake yesterday. After a lovely trip with my son and his dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret.
“My son was with his dad asleep with his headphones on, so there is that saving grace. I take this very seriously, and I apologise to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath.
“I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry.”
