Robert Pattinson has addressed the recent news that his upcoming film The Batman Part II is taking a break from shooting due to a personal matter involving its director.
Last week, a spokesperson for the production company DC Studios confirmed that “production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused” to allow filmmaker Matt Reeves to “focus” on “a family matter”.
“Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon,” a rep added at the time.
Speaking to Official Pop Drop, Rob was asked about this for the first time.
“We’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out,” he explained when asked about how its director was getting on.
The British actor made his debut as the Caped Crusader in 2022’s The Batman, which became both a critical and commercial hit, eventually spawning an award-winning TV spin-off, The Penguin, centred around Colin Farrell’s character.
Colin is set to join Robert in the sequel alongside co-stars Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis, reprising their roles as Gotham Police officer Jim Gordon and butler Albert Pennyworth, respectively.
In Part II, Sebastian Stan will be introduced as Harvey Dent, otherwise known as the iconic Batman villain Two-Face, with his fellow Marvel alum Scarlett Johansson playing his wife, Gilda.
However, the sequel has already faced numerous delays due to the Hollywood strikes of 2023, and leading man Robert Pattinson’s later commitments to The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three.
Filming on The Batman Part II finally got underway in May 2026, more than four years after the first movie hit cinemas.
In their original reporting on production hitting pause, Deadline noted it was “too early to say” if this would affect the movie’s planned release date, which was originally set for October 2025, before finally being bumped to February 2028.
It is also unclear at present whether Matt is expected to return to the project when it resumes production, or if another filmmaker will take over on directing duties.
