Insurer QBE Re, the reinsurance arm of QBE Insurance Group, has appointed Soichiro Tanaka as its new head of Southeast Asia.
Tanaka has over 13 years of experience in the Asian insurance and reinsurance markets. Prior to joining Aspen Insurance Holdings, he served as a senior underwriter and played a key role in supporting the company’s Singapore branch’s property, casualty and specialty lines expansion.
In this newly created role, Tanaka will be responsible for developing underwriting strategy across Southeast Asia. His responsibilities will include overseeing portfolio management and identifying new growth opportunities as the reinsurer continues to strengthen its presence in the region.
He will be based in Singapore and report to Cindy Foo, Head of Asia at Treaty. The appointment is part of QBE Re’s wider strategy to expand its business in Asia. Previously, Cindy Foo was appointed as the head of Greater China in December 2025, and Sven Liu was appointed as the head of Greater China in January.
Foo, head of Asia treaties at QBE Re, added: “We are delighted to welcome Soichiro to this role as we continue to expand our Asia portfolio. I am confident that his strong technical expertise and extensive multi-line experience in Southeast Asia will be an asset to QBE Re.”
