Previsico, an insurtech company that provides advanced flood prediction and risk management solutions, has released Flood Intelligence 2.0, an updated version of its flood prediction platform.

The platform is designed to provide insurers, infrastructure operators, risk managers and organizations exposed to flood risk with clearer insights and greater confidence in managing flood events.

Flood Intelligence 2.0 solves two long-standing challenges in flood forecasting. It replaces traditional deterministic forecasts with probabilistic methods, allowing users to better understand the likelihood and potential severity of flooding. The platform also provides hourly updates, allowing operators to respond quickly to changing conditions using near real-time data.

Sam Wilks, Product Director at Previsico, commented: “Flood Intelligence 2.0 sets a new benchmark for flood forecasting, and the move from deterministic to probabilistic insights represents a huge step forward.

“Instead of telling users whether a flood will occur, our platform now displays a more detailed view of outcomes, including the likelihood and severity of flooding, and provides accurate, timely and actionable intelligence to support real-time response efforts, from managing insured assets and infrastructure to operational planning. This is a significant advancement for the resilience and effectiveness of the insurance industry and its customers.”

This platform update includes five major improvements. Probabilistic forecasts now provide a range of potential flood scenarios along with their likelihood and severity, supporting more informed decision-making. Forecasts are updated hourly instead of every three hours, allowing for closer to real-time monitoring of flood conditions.

Retrospective analysis now covers a full 24 hours instead of 12 hours, allowing users to understand the development of flood events in more detail and assist with verification, assessment and resource coordination. The platform interface has been updated to provide a smoother, more intuitive experience, while enhanced APIs provide more detailed output, improved performance, and easier integration with customer systems, streamlining operational workflows.
