Nick Hankin has been appointed Managing Director of QBE Re, the reinsurance arm of QBE Insurance Group, with effect from 1 January 2026.
Hankin, currently chief underwriting officer (CUO) of QBE International, succeeds Chris Killourhy, who moved to group chief financial officer earlier this year.
According to the announcement, Hankin will retain his responsibilities as international CUO during the transition period. Recruitment for the CUO position is ongoing.
Hankin has more than 30 years of underwriting experience and has been with QBE since July 2020, when he joined QBE’s European business as deputy chief underwriting officer, before joining the group’s CUO team in March 2020.
The executive’s career spans six major global organizations, including RSA, AXA, Zurich, AIG and Aviva. His experience includes leadership roles in underwriting, P&L management, risk and governance, and strategy.
Jason Harris, CEO of QBE International, said: “I am delighted to recognize the strength of our internal talent pool and Nick’s leadership skills with this appointment. Nick combines technical excellence with strategic vision and proven ability to execute.
“QBE Re plays an increasingly important role in the business and I am confident that Nick and the QBE Re team will continue to serve our cedants and partners through engagement and the strength of our global franchise.”
