MSIG Europe SE, a recognized provider of property and marine insurance solutions in continental Europe, has announced upcoming changes to its senior underwriting team.
Patrick Smolka, who previously served as one of the chief underwriting officers of MSIG Europe, will resign from his position on December 31, 2025 for personal reasons. Over the years, he has played a central role in growing underwriting expertise across the business and supporting its strategic priorities.
Effective January 1, 2026, Herbert Baeten will assume overall responsibility for the Underwriting Division. MSIG Europe has confirmed that its strategic direction will continue as planned and that the leadership changes will have no impact.
CEO Klaus M. Przybyla said in an official statement: “I sincerely thank Patrick for his excellent collaboration, tireless dedication and many valuable contributions over the past seven and a half years. During his tenure, Patrick has played an important role in growing MSIG in Europe, executing our strategic priorities and strengthening our market position. I wish him all the best for the future.”
As Betten prepares to take over the role, he has worked closely with Smolka and said he is confident of a smooth, stable transition. “I have worked closely with Patrick over the past year and a half and our actions have always been completely aligned.”
MSIG Europe reiterated its commitment to continuity, stability and service excellence as it moves forward with the planned leadership transition.
