Markel Group names Wilson and Crowley as EVPs

Global reinsurance and insurance company Markel Group Inc. has appointed Simon Wilson and Andrew Crowley as its Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs), effective immediately.

In addition to their current responsibilities, the two will also take on expanded responsibilities. Currently, Wilson serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Markel Insurance and Crowley serves as President of Markel Ventures.

In their new positions, the pair will be responsible for Markle Group’s insurance and non-insurance businesses, respectively, and report to Markle Group CEO Tom Gaynor.

Markle explained that these appointments highlight the critical role the two men play in advancing the company’s strategic and operational priorities.

Gaynor commented on the appointments: “These appointments represent the ongoing evolution of our Markel Group structure and the continued drive to simplify the business. Under Simon and Andrew’s leadership and partnership, they are focused on serving the operations, customers and markets they know best.”

Meanwhile, Amy McCann has been promoted to chief administrative officer of Markel Group, also reporting to Gaynor. She has served as General Counsel of Markel Ventures, a subsidiary of Markel Group, since 2022 and will retain these responsibilities.

In her expanded responsibilities, McCann, who joined the company in 2019, will work closely with Gayner and the executive leadership team to oversee operational and organizational matters and ensure alignment across the Markel Group.

Gayner added: “Amy has been a valuable partner and leader to our team, and her expanded responsibilities will help further align our operations and strategy, strengthen our culture, and strengthen connections across the Markel Group.”
