Liberty Specialty Markets names David Saillen as CUO Europe

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), a division of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, announced the appointment of David Saillen as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) Europe.

Saillen succeeds Pierre-Edouard Fraigneau, who was appointed President Europe in July 2025, effective September 1, after five years at CUO Europe. Fraigneau retains legal and regulatory responsibility in relation to Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe.

Based in Zurich, Saillen will report jointly to Liberty International Insurance global CUO Fraigneau and Ronald Bolaños.

In his new role, Saillen will be responsible for underwriting performance across Europe, delivering strong results for his team and Liberty’s clients and brokerage partners. He will also help advance the 2030 European Investment Strategy, reinforcing Liberty’s commitment to be a long-term supportive partner to insureds and partners across the continent.

Saillen has been with LSM for the past ten years, most recently as Head of Fine Arts and Coins for Continental Europe.

Prior to this, he served as Managing Director of AXA ART Switzerland Ltd. and Head of Global Distribution for AXA ART.

Fraigneau commented: “We are very pleased to announce David as our new CUO for Europe. David was instrumental in shaping our fine art and coin books in Europe and building them into the market-leading products we have today. He is an innovator, technology expert and passionate advocate for positive change. Under his leadership, our outstanding European team will continue to expand our global reach through a local lens.”
