Howden Re, the global reinsurance, capital markets and strategic advisory arm of Howden Group, has further strengthened its Latin America and Caribbean business with the appointment of Carlos Garcia as managing director and Karina Lopez as director.
Howden Re said the appointments reflected growing demand for complex reinsurance solutions in both regions.
Both executives are said to have developed strong relationships with multinational, Puerto Rican and Dominican clients, which they will reportedly continue to develop at Howden Re while expanding the company’s presence in broader markets and spinoffs.
Howden Re said the company has established operations in Brazil, Miami and Peru, and the new employees will join in May and be based in New Jersey, which will further strengthen its ability to support customers in the wider region.
Carlos Garcia has 22 years of experience in retail insurance and reinsurance, including four years at Marsh before joining Guy Carpenter in 2008.
Karina Lopez, also from Guy Carpenter, has 14 years of experience in the Latin American and Caribbean treaty sector.
April McLaughlin, Head of Howden Miami, commented: “Latin America and the Caribbean is a key growth area for Howden Re and presents compelling opportunities: it is a large, complex and underserved market, and clients are increasingly looking for brokers with real local expertise and global capabilities.
Carlos and Karina’s extensive experience in the region’s most focused markets, coupled with their technical rigor and strong client relationships, further strengthens the proposition we are building for clients in Latin America and the Caribbean. “
Mario Baotic, Head of International Growth Markets at Howden Re International Treaties, added: “The region has high catastrophe exposure, a rapidly maturing insurance market and a real need for specialist reinsurance solutions. The appointments of Carlos and Karina reflect our ambition at Howden Re to be the partner of choice for clients in the region.”
