About a week ago, Amazon users took to social media to share a revealing new feature of the app.
Since May this year, an AI tool has been describing what site users’ behaviour tells the company about how they might live, including what (and how) they like to read and whether they live alone.
But it really took off on sites like Threads last week, as some reported less, er, predictable comments, like “has flat buttocks” and “husband has skinny legs”, on their reports too.

Of course, this left me curious. Here’s what happened when I looked at what Amazon said about me, and how to see what it “knows” about you, too.
What Amazon said about me
My result says I’m building a “comprehensive craft supply collection” (in fairness, my bulging cupboards suggest that’s true) and that I “bake bread regularly” (I used to!).

Apparently, crafting makes up a lot of my Amazon profile. The report had two separate entries that read “departments: craft supplies” and “creates handmade crafts extensively”.
There were some errors, like the assumption that I live alone and “maintain [an] organised home environment” – not possible with all those crafts and culinary activities, I’m afraid.
But for the most part, the rest of the comments – “engages in fitness activities”, “prefers classic literature”, “cooks with premium ingredients”, “prefers drugstore beauty brands” – were right on the money.
No reflections about my legs or bum were (thankfully) included.
How can I see what Amazon thinks about me?
This depends on your device. On my phone’s Amazon app, I:
- Selected my profile (the circle with a face on it),
- Clicked on the words “Hello Amy” (yours will obviously use your name instead),
- Clicked on “Account”,
- Scrolled to “Your shopping preferences”,
- Scrolled to “About you”.
On Amazon’s desktop site, meanwhile:
- Go to “Your account”,
- Select “Ordering and shopping preferences”,
- Click on “Your shopping preferences”,
- Scroll to “About you” at the bottom of the page.
