Global Parametrics, part of CelestPro Group, has partnered with rural social commerce platform Frontier Markets to launch gender-smart parametric insurance solutions in India.
The product is designed to protect smallholder women farmers in four districts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
The plan covers excess moisture and drought risk during the current Rabi growing season (November 2025 to April 2026).
This solution is enabled by Frontier Markets’ AI-powered Meri Saheli app and its strong network of local female entrepreneurs (Super Sahelis), both of which are able to reach some of the most remote female-led households to provide climate protection for their crops.
By leveraging local networks, the partnership ensures that climate protection is not only achievable but accessible to those who have historically been excluded from formal financial services.
Unlike traditional insurance, which requires time for a personal loss assessment, parametric insurance triggers automatic payments based on predefined weather data.
The model has proven its effectiveness. Parametric payments for excess moisture were triggered in November 2025 at 14 locations and distributed directly to affected farmers by Frontier Markets, marking the successful launch of a scalable model that is expanding across the country.
The program is funded by the Natural Disasters Fund (NDF), which is administered by Global Parametrics through its Technical Assistance Agency.
The NDF is funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and KfW on behalf of BMZ, with risk-sharing support from Hannover Re.
Humanity Insured provides critical premium subsidies to ensure the product remains affordable for the most vulnerable farmers.
Additionally, Go Digit General Insurance acted as the local insurance company and Howden Tiger India acted as the broker to build the parametric product.
