Gen Re, the global reinsurance subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, announced the appointment of Charles Lawson as head of North American P&C treaties and Erin Kang as chief underwriter of North American P&C treaties.

In the newly created role, Lawson will oversee General Re’s three North American property and casualty treaty divisions.

He joined Gen Re in 2007 as a temporary property underwriter and has since progressed to senior leadership roles. Most recently, from May 2022, he served as Head of North America Treaty – National and Transnational Division.

In his new role, Kang will be responsible for the company’s three treaty underwriting and actuarial teams.

She has more than 25 years of insurance industry experience and has been with Gen Re for nearly seven years, most recently as chief underwriting officer for the Regional and Specialty and Mutual Practices.

Prior to joining Gen Re, Kang spent eight years at AIG, most recently as chief actuary in the excess casualty and reinsurance division. Earlier in her career, she served as Vice President and Actuary at Chubb.

Gen Re President and CEO Kara Raiguel commented in a recent LinkedIn post: “Erin and Chuck have consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to delivering solutions for our clients in an increasingly complex market while maintaining underwriting integrity and long-term growth prospects.
