In Celebrity Traitors, there is so much to enjoy. The tasks, the accusations, learning that your favourite celebs have no filter…
Another joy is fashion. Both in the normal show and the celebrity edition, contestants appear in incredibly stylish, bold clothes that really bring their characters to life.
Is anybody else still thinking about Stephen’s jumpsuits from this year’s Traitors?
Now, Cherish Reardon, co-founder at Popsy Clothing has shared that there is more than meets the eye when it coms to Traitor’s style and the choices of clothing could make contestants seem more trustworthy.
How fashion drives decisions on Celebrity Traitors
Bold and bright colours can shift suspicion
“Many of this year’s celebrities have leaned into bold colourful patterns already, leading with self-expression”, shares Reardon.
“Fans have already been quick to spot Richard’s love of scarves, Maya’s vibrant mustard yellow fur coat, and Joe Lycett’s patterned short and top co-ord set.
“These bright fashion pieces can go one of two ways, either subtly shifting other players’ attention away from their actions onto what they’re wearing, therefore keeping the attention off them at the roundtable.
“Alternatively, because bold colours may make them more memorable, it could make them more of a target if a player were to slip up – perhaps even be targeted at the roundtable when players start to clutch at straws.”
Blue can make you seem more trustworthy
Reardon shares: “Blue has been cited in multiple studies as the most trustworthy colour you can wear, thanks to its association with calmness, security and reliability.
“In fact 33% of people say they associate blue most closely with intelligence. So, whether they’re a Traitor trying to gain the Faithful’s confidence or a Faithful looking to avoid suspicion, it seems there could be something to keeping blue in their wardrobe if they’re in it for the long haul.”
Cute and cosy cardigans feel familiar
Knitwear also plays a huge role on Traitors. As it’s filmed in the Scottish Highlands, staying cosy is essential but for some contestants, it offers more than just warmth.
Reardon says they offer a “teacher-like” aesthetic, adding: “Think cardigans and cosy knits, like Rachel’s red and pink chunky knitted cardigan from last season’s finale.
“Pieces like these can make players seem more approachable and subconsciously inspire trust, meaning their gameplay is far less likely to be questioned.”
Consistency is key
“Most importantly, consistency is key. If a player suddenly makes a dramatic change in their style, players will pick up on that and will mark it as a red flag, like they did when Leanne started applying make up just before midnight. “
