Global specialty and P&C reinsurer Canopius Group has announced that Nicholas Whettem and Namrata Soni have joined its newly formed Natural Resources team.
The reinsurer recently reorganized its underwriting capabilities to form an integrated natural resources team that integrates energy (upstream, midstream and downstream), heavy industry, power and renewables, and construction.
Whitham has been appointed director of power and renewable energy. He will be based in London, reporting to Alois Rouffiac, chief underwriting officer UK, and lead the development of the Canopius portfolio.
He joins Canopius from Zurich, where he served as senior underwriter in the power generation and sustainable energy sectors. Whetem also brings extensive London market experience, having previously managed MS Amlin’s energy and industrial underwriting portfolio.
Sony has been appointed as energy and construction underwriter. She will be based in Sydney, Australia, and report to Andrew Ziolkowski, country director for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).
Soni has approximately 15 years of industry experience, with expertise in specialist underwriting, portfolio management and risk management of construction, energy and renewable energy projects in Australia and New Zealand.
She joins Chubb Insurance Australia from Chubb Insurance Australia where she was a senior underwriter specializing in construction, renewable energy and power generation. Prior to this, Soni held roles at QBE Insurance and Zurich.
