Berkshire Hathaway (BHSI) promotes Portbury as President, AME & CEO, Hong Kong

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI), an insurer that provides commercial property, casualty and specialty insurance, has appointed Marcus Portbury as regional president for Asia Middle East (AME) and Hong Kong branch chief executive officer (CEO), subject to regulatory approval.

Portbury will remain based in Hong Kong and succeeds Marc Breuil in both roles, who is retiring from the corporate and insurance industry.

Portbury joined BHSI in 2014 and most recently served as regional director for third-party routes in Asia.

He has more than thirty years of experience in the insurance industry, including more than two decades in senior leadership roles in Asia. He remains based in Hong Kong.

In Africa and the Middle East, BHSI underwrites a full range of commercial property and casualty insurance, as well as multinational insurance and accident and health insurance.

Commenting on the appointment, BHSI President and CEO Peter Eastwood said: “Marcus has played a key role in growing our business in Asia and the Middle East since our launch in the region, bringing BHSI’s underwriting discipline, financial strength and commitment to quality service to clients across the region.

“I look forward to continuing our collaboration and building strong relationships and customer focus across the region.”

Eastwood added: “I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Marc Breuil. Under his leadership, BHSI has built a strong, stable portfolio and an outstanding team in Asia and the Middle East. Marc has had a distinguished career in the global insurance industry. I am proud to call him a colleague and friend and wish him well in his retirement.”
