Insurance intermediary Specialist Risk Group (SRG), backed by Warburg Pincus and Temasek Holdings, has announced the appointment of Richard Gurney to the newly created position of head of specialty.
The new leadership position is designed to accelerate the building of SRG’s international professional proposition.
In this role, Gurney joins the Group Executive Committee and will be responsible for deepening SRG’s existing specialist offerings and internationalisation, while identifying and investing in new areas where the Group can create greater value for clients.
He has over thirty years of industry experience across claims, global construction and specialist placements, with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex multi-discipline projects for international clients.
Gurney joins SRG from Marsh where he served as global head of construction. Prior to this, he spent over ten years with JLT in a range of professional roles, most recently including Global Head of Professionals, Construction and Global Head of Claims.
Warren Downey, CEO of SRG Group, said: “Richard is a highly experienced and respected expert in his own right and a consistent and compelling leader. Having him join SRG’s leadership team is an important milestone in the next phase of SRG’s growth.”
Gurney commented: “I am delighted to be joining SRG at such a pivotal time. There is a clear opportunity to build a specialist offering that combines entrepreneurial dynamism with the discipline and reach required by international clients. By leveraging SRG’s specialist culture, London market access and growing international reach, we can make a real difference.”
Gurney’s appointment follows the recent appointments of Neil Nimmo as UK CEO in June 2025 and Sasa Brcerevic as the group’s first chief commercial officer, effective November 1, 2025. These appointments are consistent with SRG’s goal to strengthen its leadership as it enters its next phase of growth.
