Allianz SE announces Board of Management changes ahead of 2027 transition

Munich-based German multinational financial services and insurance group Allianz Group has announced a series of leadership and portfolio changes to its management board as part of long-term succession planning and organizational development.

These changes follow the planned retirement of Klaus-Peter Röhler, who will resign from the Management Board on December 31, 2026, after reaching the company’s age limit and completing his contractual tasks. Röhler will leave the company after 30 years.

Subject to regulatory approval, the new appointments and role changes will be effective January 1, 2027.

Allianz’s current CEO Tomas Kunzmann will join the Management Board and will be responsible for the Asia Pacific region, including India. His successor as CEO of Allianz will be announced later.

Renate Wagner, who has become a member of the Management Board, will take over the business in Germany, Switzerland and Central Europe. Wagner will also continue to oversee the Talent & Culture and M&A businesses, while handing over Asia Pacific responsibilities to Kunzman.

The Global Property & Casualty Retail segment oversees the global retail insurance business and will report to Sirma Boshnakova. Boshnakova currently leads the Western and Southern European insurance business as well as Allianz Direct and Allianz Partners within the group.

The company also confirmed that Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre’s term as chief financial officer and member of the management board has been extended by five years until December 31, 2031.

Commenting on the changes, Michael Diekmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Allianz AG, said: “On behalf of the Supervisory Board, I would like to express my respect and appreciation for the contribution Klaus-Peter Röhler has made to the success of Allianz during his thirty years of service and congratulate Tomas Kunzmann on his appointment to the Management Board in 2027.”

CEO Oliver Bäte also praised Rohrer’s influence and welcomed the next generation of leadership. “Klaus-Peter Röhler is an outstanding leader and a highly respected colleague who has demonstrated excellence and integrity in every role he has held at Allianz. He has been an inspiring role model and mentor to many people, including members of our Management Board and many other leaders across our company. I count myself among those who have benefited from his advice over the years.

“We are extremely fortunate to have a talented and technology-forward leader like Thomas Kunzmann in our succession and development pipeline. Over the past few years, he has delivered growth and technology transformation within our flagship global business line Allianz Partners, which provides the strategic blueprint for Allianz’s intention to expand our services in growing markets.

“As we look toward the next phase of growth, resilience and productivity, we can rely on our entire board to continue to excel in their respective areas of responsibility.”

Tomas Kunzmann has served as Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Partners since July 1, 2022. During his tenure, the global provider of assistance and insurance solutions achieved strong financial and customer growth, reaching more than 90 million customers worldwide, with annual revenue exceeding €10.5 billion and operating profit of €402 million by 2025.

Together with Allianz Direct, Allianz Partners form a key component of the Allianz Connected Platform, which combines insurance expertise with AI-driven technology and a global network of service providers to deliver an omni-channel, highly personalized customer experience.

Kunzmann joined the Allianz Group in 2009 and held various positions at Allianz Private Krankenversicherung, including Head of Health Underwriting. In 2013, he moved to Allianz Beratungs- und Vertriebs-AG, Allianz’s German sales organization, as Sales Manager and subsequently headed the regional branches in Ingolstadt and Kempten. He transferred to the group headquarters in 2017 as executive assistant to the CEO and interim chief of staff. In 2020, he joined the Allianz Partners Board of Directors to lead the Mobility & Assistance business line.

He studied Business Administration at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and studied abroad in Washington, D.C., and Jyväskylä, Finland.
