Zurich appoints Amit Kalra to lead new Global Capability Center in India

Zurich, a major international insurance company, has established a new global competence center in Hyderabad, India, and appointed Amit Kalra as head of the Zurich competence center, effective July 1, 2026.

The insurer said the move reinforces its focus on advanced technology and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to “transform” the insurance industry.

The new center is a strategic extension of Zurich’s global operating model, with end-to-end ownership of engineering, data and core business operations. It also embeds AI-powered ways of working to address the design, delivery and scaling of solutions across the group.

As the center grows, Zurich said it will recruit experts in cloud and platform engineering, data and artificial intelligence, application development, cybersecurity and quality engineering. Teams will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of their solutions.

In his new role, Kalra will be based in India and develop the insurance company’s competency center strategy and oversee all branches globally. He will also lead the establishment and expansion of the Hyderabad hub to support Zurich’s wider technology and AI ambitions.

Kalra has extensive experience building and leading global capability centers as strategic enablers for complex international organizations.

Cara Morton, CEO of Global Business and Operations at Zurich, commented: “India is an important talent market for Zurich and Hyderabad stands out for its deep engineering expertise and innovation.

“This center reflects a shift in how we build the future, strengthening our global technology and artificial intelligence capabilities while providing highly skilled professionals with the opportunity to develop solutions that deliver real impact to our clients around the world.”
