According to reports, YouTube is testing new video quality settings that will automatically adjust the playback resolution based on data usage preferences. The new settings drop-down menu currently being tested in the Beta version will be different from the current settings on YouTube, which allows users to select a specific resolution (between 144p and 4K) for streaming videos. According to reports, the new menu will include options for automatic, higher picture quality (more data usage) and data protection procedures, as well as advanced options for selecting specific resolutions.

According to 9to5Google, along with the new set of video quality options, the YouTube video settings menu under test will also specify the current resolution of the video at the top. And will provide users with the option to choose different default settings to stream videos on Wi-Fi and mobile data.

According to reports, these options are being tested on Beta version 15.45.32. It is not clear whether YouTube will promote this feature to more users in the next few days. The report also did not specify whether to change the video quality settings menu for all users in the world or only in certain regions.
