A report from the Pew Research Center shows that YouTube’s usage rate in the United States is about 81%, making it the most popular social media platform in the United States in 2021. The adoption rate has slowed down. In addition, the report also stated that Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok have strong followers among young people.
The report also provides a breakdown of social media platform usage by age. The report emphasizes: “About 84% of adults aged 18-29 said they have used any social media site, which is similar to the proportion (81%) of adults aged 30-49.” Below, 73% of adults between the ages of 50 and 64 said they use social media sites, and about 45% of adults over 65 said they use social media sites.
Most people aged 18 to 29 said they use Instagram (71%) or Snapchat (65%), and “about half” said the same to TikTok. The report also shows a sharp contrast in the use of social media sites. For example, while 65% of adults aged 18 to 29 said they use Snapchat, only 2% of participants aged 65 and over reported using the app.
Take YouTube as an example. 95% of people between the ages of 18 and 29 say they use a video platform. For users aged 30 to 49, this figure is 91%; for adults aged 50 to 64, this figure is 83%; for users over 65, this figure is 49%. When it comes to Facebook, 70% of respondents aged 18 to 29 said they are using the platform. In addition, 77% of users between 30 and 49 years old, 73% of users between 50 and 64 years old, and about 36% of users over 65 years old said they use social media platform.
