Specialist insurance provider Westfield Specialty International has strengthened its maritime business with the appointment of Abigail Piper as deputy class underwriter in its maritime liability department.
Piper will be based in London and report directly to Simon Engelen, group underwriter of marine liability insurance.
The appointment is the latest in a series of hires at Westfield Specialty International to expand its marine and energy offerings, following Matt Radbourne’s move to lead the power and renewables business earlier this month.
Piper has over fifteen years of experience in the insurance industry. Most recently, she served as senior underwriter for marine and energy liability at Convex Insurance. Prior to that, she spent nearly twelve years at Markel International in various underwriting positions.
Jon Hamilton, Divisional Director Marine & Energy, commented on the appointment: “Sustainable growth is at the heart of Westfield’s strategy and achieving this depends on our ability to continue to attract the best talent in the market. Abigail is an excellent addition to our team.
“Her ambitious mindset and deep knowledge and experience in the maritime liability sector positions her well to support the growth of our portfolio and help us continue to provide best-in-class service to brokers and clients.”
