The automaker will reportedly develop rugged electric pickups and SUVs for the U.S. market under a new sub-brand.

Volkswagen Group is looking to a new brand of electric SUVs and pickups on the U.S. market. The company will reportedly revive the Scout name for the new electric vehicle brand, which will offer a line of rugged SUVs and trucks. This will mark a revival in the United States of the name, previously used for SUVs by International Harvester (now Navistar) in the 1960s and 1970s. Volkswagen Group reportedly owns the to the Scout name in the US through its Traton commercial vehicle subsidiary under the Navistar brand.

According to reports, the Volkswagen Group plans to operate the Scout brand independently along with existing American brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley. VW’s board is expected to make a decision on the in the next few days, with plans to bring the new Scout-badged model to market as early as 2026.

The Scout name was originally used for SUVs retailed by International Harvester (now Navistar International) in the 1960s and 1970s.

Volkswagen plans to sell as many as 2,50,000 Scout-branded vehicles annually in the United States, given the popularity of SUVs and pickup trucks in the market. The company is reportedly considering building a third North American manufacturing plant to produce its Scout-branded models. The company is reportedly planning to create a dedicated skateboard architecture for the new Scout brand for a range of off-road- SUVs and pickup trucks.

The group is reportedly considering an initial investment of $1 billion in the region to prepare the project, with plans to secure additional financing from outside investors.

The truck and pickup are expected to be similar in size to the U.S.-specific Volkswagen Atlas and Amarok.

Skoda currently uses the Scout name on more off-road- variants of its models. The picture shows the Skoda Octavia Scout.

While initially the brand will be retailed only in the US, the company is considering expanding to other markets in the future.

The Volkswagen Group currently uses the Scout name as a suffix in its more rugged-looking, off-road- range of Skoda vehicles. Notable examples include the Skoda Kodiaq Scout and the Octavia Scout estate. The group does not currently offer cars with the Skoda badge in the US.
